Different People use different Keywords

How difficult can it be to pick out a few keywords? Why all the fuss about Keyword research? Well, it has been proven that it is impossible pick all of the right words to use. You customers think differently than you do. They don't know all the technical stuff you do about your topic. So their keywords will be different from what you would pick. Trust me, even if you pick out a thousand words that might relate to your website, you could miss the one keyword that has the most traffic. It happens all the time.

Get the right Keywords

So what do you do to get all the right Keywords? The answer is simply, Keyword Research. Now you can do an excellent keyword analysis right at your own home computer for free. While we highly recommend the use of Wordtracker for its thorough and comprehensive analysis, it can become costly. The Yahoo! Keyword tool is quite good and can be a good place to start.

How to do Keyword Research

Here is how you use Yahoo! Search Marketing Keyword Selector Tool:

  • Go to http://SearchMarketing.Yahoo.com
  • Click on the Sponsored Search link.
  • Then click on the Pricing link.
  • Then click on the Keyword Selector Tool link.
  • Type in a search term into the box under Get Suggestions For:

The tool will then tell you how many times the keyword you typed in was used in a search. It will also show you related keywords. If you click on one of the related words, Yahoo! will show you results that include more and different related keywords. The data is taken from the number of times it was used in the previous month.

How to Interpret the Results

The actual number of times the keyword was used in a search is not as important as the ratio of each keyword in relation to the other keywords. For example, if the first term was used in a search 10,000 times but the second word was searched only 500 times, then you know that the first word is most important keyword.

If this sound a little complicated, or if it seems like it's too big a job. That's because it is. It is a difficult task to research and analyze all of the possible keywords. It is also important to note that the free tool provided does not give you all the information you need to do a complete a thorough Keyword Analysis.
